Matthew is joining forces with Tim Yeo, Member of Parliament for neighbouring South Suffolk, to hold a public meeting to give local people the chance to voice their views over proposed BT wind turbines near the boundary of their two constituencies outside Clare, Suffolk.

They announced in June their intention to unite to oppose the wind farm: "We believe that the visual and other impact of the proposed turbines is completely unacceptable in this attractive rural corner of Suffolk. We are not opposed to wind power in principle but turbines that can be seen from miles around should only be erected where they are acceptable to the communities affected."

The public meeting will take place in Hundon Village Hall on 10 September at 8pm. For more information please email matthew.hancock.mp@parliament.uk .

This week Matthew visited one of Newmarket's top hotels, the Bedford Lodge. Matthew met Manager Noel Byrne to talk about what can be done to promote Tourism in West Suffolk and to see how the industry is coping with these tough economic times.

Matthew said: "This is such a fantastic part of the country for Tourism and the Bedford Lodge is a cracking hotel. I am looking forward to working with the Tourism industry across Suffolk to promote our wonderful part of the world."

Matthew visited Elveden Post Office to talk to Maggie the Sub postmistress about the problems faced by rural post offices and the roles that they play for the local community.

Given its position along the dangerous and slow single carriageway A11 Matthew also discussed the difficulties that the state of the road has caused for businesses along the length of the road.

Matthew and Elizabeth Truss, the MP for South West Norfolk with local business leaders who support the scheme to dual the A11 stand by the final single carriageway.

Matthew and Elizabeth have both been campaigning hard to get this last section of road dualled due to its economic importance to the whole region as well as the clear

danger it presents to motorists.

Matthew has already written a letter to Philip Hammond the Secretary of State for Transport to push the case for the scheme and had it signed by 8 other MPs in the region.

He has had meetings with senior civil servants in the Department for Transport to discuss how best to push the scheme and is working tirelessly to ensure that the scheme

is at the top and stays at the top of the list of infrastructure projects for the East of England.
