Securing Better Broadband

As the Minister of State for Digital, I was responsible for taking the Digital Economy Act through Parliament and the Act was passed into law in April 2017. The Digital Economy Act guarantees everyone a minimum broadband speed of 10Mbps. Furthermore, internet service providers will be required to provide compensation to customers if service requirements are not met. I am completely committed to getting my constituents the broadband speeds they need to fully take part in the modern 21st century technological age. If your broadband is too slow, get in touch.

Securing A Better Future For Horseracing and Newmarket

The reforms to the Horseracing Levy have been signed into law. It's incredibly good news for British racing, and as the biggest centre of racing in the country, and it's great news for Newmarket in particular. The levy has been changed to now apply to offshore businesses and it will create a level playing field amongst betting operators.

Securing Better Education

I’ve worked hard over many years to support all schools in West Suffolk. I applaud the success of the Samuel Ward Academy which has been graded Outstanding in its two most recent Ofsted inspections, thus paving the way for the Samuel Ward Academy Trust to join forces with Castle Manor Academy and Newmarket Academy to ensure the same excellent standards in education across Haverhill and Newmarket.
In the north of West Suffolk, I have backed Ixworth and Breckland free schools – both schools are supported by excellent staff and committed parents. Without these free schools we would have lost secondary education in both Brandon and Ixworth, with less choice for parents and fewer opportunities for young people.

Securing Better Transport

A11 Fiveways: We secured the A11 improvements, now we must further address the safety concerns at the A11 Fiveways roundabout. New road markings have been painted and signage has been installed and now traffic light signalling is due to be installed on the roundabout.

A1307: I have pushed for improvements to the A1307. The A1307 is an extremely dangerous road and this is widely recognised. I am leading the recently formed A1307 Strategy Board with the support of the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce to push for this goal. I have raised the issue of the A1307 with the Minister of State at the Department for Transport and demanded a report on traffic flows on the A1307 which has now been completed. I will keep fighting to improve transport in West Suffolk.
